...your photojornalist friend is right. these days the IRA is a bunch of punk kids, who may or may not be actual members (soldiers) they are provencial IRA. they may hold their own personal beliefs about a free ireland, however violent and misguided. they are also the offspring of the traditional National IRA, who actually was very well organised and picked proper targets(british soldiers, royals, UDA). these traditional IRA members are now SINN FEIN, the political wing of the IRA who signed a cease-fire with the british gov't. but has stock piled it's weapons, for the day when the peace treaty gets broken, ....and it always does.
