Debating isn't fun if people just get pissy. But I enjoyed going to Nevada and playing cheerleader to 95 or so Obama supporters who showed up to caucus. The 80 or so Hillary supporters were very angry, I decided it was because they just couldn't believe how stupid we were not see that she was better prepared for the job. They were just aghast.

I am very fired up, and nervously read and check polls daily.

I'd like to go to Colorado to help canvass for part of October, but I am stuck in California fighting against two initiatives on the ballot that will lock up more young people for longer prison stretches.

As you may of heard, we're on kind of a crazy prison building/mass incarceration kick in the US the last three decades. We're addicted to incarcerating people of color, just can't seem to stop.

So...... you go!

freakpirate:
I'll be voting. smile
Voting in Calgary seems like it will be a little depressing but at least I'm trying.

freakpirate:
Oh, and you probably haven't seen the commercials the Conservatives are running now but Harper is totally wearing a child molester sweater vest.

sweetbutch:

yeh, mccain-palin are slightly ahead on the national map.

but it will come down to volunteer and staff efforts in colorado, ohio, and a few other states to deliver. a lot of young people will be active for both Obama and McCain. the young secular idealists, and the young christian idealists will be working the phones and the streets. (the christians are there for one of their own, that Alaskan, Sarah Palin.

the repbulicans built a massive church based ground operation over the last decade.

obama has only had a few months, post Hillary, to build a ground operation.

it's gonna be close.

luv

freakpirate:
Oh they are bad. I mean, nothing out of the ordinary. Just... bad. "Real" Canadians who support Harper.

quietlythere:
Voting is awesome smile
rpg:
This election sucks. I am afraid that even the Sask voters will forget how the Conservatives have screwed us since the last election and vote them back in. frown frown frown frown
turbulence:
good luck with turning any country less conservative...
lavonne:
I'm really glad you are trying to vote!! G thinks it will be a Liberal minority too.
tastycorpse666:
You can have my vote!
glass_cat:
yeah... I'm definately going to be doin' some voting..

and likely drinking to forget that, as you mentioned, people continue to support idiots who do horribly stupid and blatantly evil shit.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to convince my roommates to keep a piece of mail so they can do the same.
opticnerve:
Did you know that under the Conservatives, Canada has squandered a $12 billion surplus from the Liberals and now we're running a deficit? Now, get this. He is campaigning on his 'fine' record as the steward of Canada's finances and economy. whatever
opticnerve:
Bush Lite indeed. Bush ran every enterprise into the ground, and I see Harper and Flaherty doing the same with the economy. Remember, Jim Flaherty was part of the same Conservative government in Ontario that campaigned under the banner of fiscal frugality and yet, when they were voted out of office, they actually left the province with a billion dollar deficit.

What I find infuriating about Harper is that all his policies favor the West, yet he does nothing to help relieve the economic hardship of the two most populous provinces, Ontario and Quebec. Ontario for years supplied so much money in terms of transfer payments that went out to infrastructure projects in the West, and now that they're having an economic boom, it's a big 'F You' to Ontario. mad
opticnerve:
Yeah, voting is not a right, it's a responsibility. If you don't vote, you should be like forced to give up your citizenship.
opticnerve:
What do you think of the decision to bar the Green Party's leader, Elizabeth May, from participating in the upcoming televised debates?
wadewalker:
The conservative radio ads running in Ontario are gross. They have fake "radio callers" recorded as though they're calling in to the station talking about how the evil carbon tax is going to destroy the business community and only responsible "green" policies under Harper are sane. I keep wondering about the legality of commercials that play at being real people's opinions. Though I imagine a few people actually agree with such ideological gibberish. puke
mat8drb:
Hee hee. We're all doing them in SGUK now after the thing from MS2005. Win. You do one - I'm damn sure yours would be grand!

I've been reading a little about your election (The Economist) but our media coverage is dominated (DOMINATED) by the US one. Even at London Bridge station last week, I saw someone with an Obama t-shirt.
yellowdays:
that adds are terrible rin. and i dont hink elizabeth hubert graduated with us anyhow, wasnt she a year ahead wink
ladyexxa:
I'm voting Green. Dave spoils his ballots.
opticnerve:
What I found surprising was Layton's objection to May's inclusion in the debate. If Layton really was all about promoting the best possible policies for the environment, he should have welcomed May to the debate podium. My suspicion is that he is afraid that the Green Party will siphon off support for the NDP, if they are given forum to articulate their platform. If my theory is true, then that would be a big disappointment, because Layton isn't as altruistic about the environment as he paints himself to be and he's all about politicking as the leaders of the other three official parties.
tastycorpse666:
What is it going to do? Kill me? HAHA!! Everybody dies.

I do much appreciate the <3's though!
wadewalker:
Hey thanks! I't snice having friends in high places. Or at least warm places. tongue
monroe:
Ah I feel you on the political stuff; I'm gonna be super, super beyond bummed if my liberal countrymen and women don't get out and vote. I mean, why NOT
tastycorpse666:
YAY thanks buddy!
