The kids won't care about the cleanliness of your house, and a single buddy likely won't either. Sometimes, a low key hallowe'en is good. I'll be teaching undergrad biology students that night. I plan to give them gummy rats.

Oh that's too bad about the party. Personally, I think I get a bigger kick out of seeing all the little kids dressed up. It's not looking too good for trick-or-treating here though - woke up to a few inches of snow, with more on the way, apparently. I love snow, but not usually on Hallowe'en.
