Had a nice weekend of being a Ref for Roller Derby. Got to see some old derby friends again after my 2-year break. It was a local tournament and there were 7 games, which I Ref each one. I did the best I could since I had not kept up on WFTDA rules and what have you. I got asked a lot how I was able to Ref every game back-to-back where the refs in there 20's had to take breaks all the time. All I could say I had no clue.
The locker room had to be shared by one local team and us refs. (the other 3 teams had their own rooms). There was one me and one other male ref. It did bring back memories of the past, where the ladies could careless who was in the locker room when changing. It doesn't bother me who is in there when I am changing.
(One team from Montana, two from North Dakota, one from Minnesota)
While warming up on the track with everyone. I did find it funny that a few of the skaters were talking about their special sites they had to make money. How easy it was to scam and fool their subs. I am sure if they knew I heard them over all the noise, but I didn't say a word, wasn't going to get into it with them.
One skater that I have known for 15 years also came back to play after her long break. So, it was nice to see her again and ref her. We haven't spoken to each other for about 5 years, but it was like no time as pasted. She is the one in the photo.
All in all it was a relaxing weekend.
