definitely a better idea to buy a condo than to rent. Basically you're giving money to a mortgage rather than throwing it away in rent every month, and you build credit and equity. Condo fees are nothing. It may be a little more expensive but it's definitely worth it. Trust me this is something I know about! Your Dad is 100% right!

Do your research and you'll do fine. Renting is great if you aren't certain where you are going to be in 6-18 months, but if you know you are going to stick around - it's best not to throw your money away.
