I assume you have it set to 'auto', right? Try more light. Maybe outside in shaded sunlight if it's a bright day and just anywhere if it's cloudy. Your depth of focus is probably too thin because you have the aperture wide open because it's not bright enough.

You can also try getting further away and zooming in.
