I can think of some ideas for a Cheshire cat costume. Want me to give suggestions?

Mmm, hot apple cider...
user0388058038:
Ew, $100...

So, do you want Cheshire cat from the book or Cheshire cat from the movie?

And how "quality" do you want it to be?

I made a CATS costume before, so you can do what I did if you want...maybe make it a sort of Alice in Wonderland/CATS crossover.

I used a full-body leotard (I think nylon/lycra works better than cotton/lycra, but it's up to you), but those can be pricy - mine was $40. You'd also have to get a nude under-leotard and a dance belt, which adds up. They look really hot, though! smile You can also use striped PJs if you want, or can find them. If you want to go with the leotard, though, tell me so I can tell you how to paint it.

I got a Rubies Cats Wig (I think you can find them at Halloween stores. I had a hell of a time searching for them online) and cut off most of it (I also cut off the hideous ears and made new ones out of fur). You don't need to trim it or add new ears if you don't want to, but you should paint it with fabric paint or fabric markers. If you do want to modify it, though, here's a helpful site. You could also go with regular Halloween cat-ears on a headband, if you don't mind his hair showing. Maybe you could even put in some temporary dye.

I used a marabou boa for the tail and tied it on with a silk cord, but I don't think marabou would color very well. Maybe you could find a cat tail in a store or make one from a tube of fake fur. I've also seen people suggest getting a thin scarf or nylon cord (or you can make a braid of multiple strands of really thick yarn) and threading colored yarn through the holes to make it look furry.

You can use any kind of face paint, but Ben Nye cream pots work great. You need to set it with powder and spray it with spray paint, and take it off with makeup remover. Tell me if you want any more facepaint tips.

I used jazz boots for the shoes, but those are definitely not necessary. He can wear stripey socks, or maybe boots covered in painted fake fur.

I also used arm- and leg-warmers, but that's not necessary. It's pretty CATS-specific.

So yeah, tell me if you need any more suggestions. smile

Thank you very much for your thoughts and words. It means a lot to me. I really miss her deeply and have no idea how to return to anything remotely normal now. She was the best friend anyone could ever ask for.
