I walked a mile up the road this afternoon to have lunch with d_day at Tokyo, a little Japanese place in the strip mall at 185th. The walk took me approximately 15 minutes. That's 4 miles per hour (check the mad math skillz). I remember when I was 12 walking home from school (which was also a little over a mile), and figuring out that I walked 5 miles per hour. That's a change of 1/2 mile for every decade of my life. At this rate I will reach 0mph in 80 years. I assume that means dead, since even wheelchairs and hospital beds can move around at fractions of miles per hour. I better start a savings account now. I bet those last 50 years are going to be a bitch if I'm not financially prepared.

As I got within a few dozen feet of the front door of the restaurant I got a text from d_man that he'd be late. In order to pass the time I walked across the street to Barnes and Noble and picked myself up Snow Crash. People have been recommending it to me for years, and now, 15 years after its printing and 8 years after it had much relevance, I've started reading it. I'm still in the first 25 pages, but I found a passage that made me smile:

Any number that can be created by fetishisitically multiplying 2s by each other, and subtracting the occasional 1, will be instantly recognizable to a hacker.

I read it even though you said I shouldn't, but I don't have anything much to say about it, so I will tell you about me.

I just listened to Van Halen's Eruption. Listen to it, now.
