So I've been looking over a lot of Sci-Fi Fantasy for quite awhile when I have to step away from Power Girl.. stuff. And what baffles me is how much people believe that a ship with some sort of energy powered shielding can withstand solid munitions. I've spent a few years (Five) designing a Sci-Fi Fantasy World known as the Tri-Alliance consisting of three factions, the Broken Arrows, Tainted Saints, and Metalloids. Now over the years it has been argued that Broken Arrow Solid Munition Rail-Gun are better than Tainted Saint Energy Volley Cannons.
So over the years, it has been decided that Solid Munition Weaponry is the best. Simply because it's Shatter ability and lose dissipation rating when posed in open Space. (Remember Space battles are fought on a 360 degree axis.
Solid Munitions when projected fast enough can pose shattering effects, a solid energy shielding based of a pushing of stopping force will indeed shatter underneath the weapon effects as if shooting a bullet through glass. A dissipating or dissolving style shielding would have to disintegrated an entire round weakening it's capacity since it's being force to work, and would fail over time.
