so is this who we... or 'they' are.... the moment that it looks like authority is not around .... looting breaks out????

i fault no one who would, in anticipation of lack of food or water to do what ever is necessary to feed their family. I hope anyone who would steal from homes or stores someday get what's coming to them.

it's pathetic because these people 'think', and i use the word think loosely.. that they are somehow getting back at society that has kept them from those 'electronics' to begin with. I hope they all drown.

I see people helping one another in one scene... and people rushing into unattended stores, covering their faces from the camera in the other... i pray justice will be meted out in due time.
abyssia:
We are all animals. That means that when an opportunity presents itself, one instinct is to seize it. In some circumstances, this is celebrated, in others it is not. We are animals trying to be more. We are also trying to live in a society by rules not all of us agree with.

Some argue that we ought banish our animal instincts, but I think not. They still have a role to play in our lives and must not be repressed, but celebrated. It is the repression of our natural tendencies that leads to the "uncivilized" behavior you lament. It is also our natural tendency to band together in time of crisis - the noble savage - the elephant - we are communal creatures, after all.

We can stand in judgment. We can observe with open eyes, in horror or with clarity, whichever lens we choose. We can punish, we can praise, we can forgive. Oh yes, and we can be really fucking pissed about it all.
