that's really strange! it's also strange that carrasco was the deciding factor in that trade. in any event, thanks for offering more than just the usual "jeter sucks" drivel in that discussion. to me, that kinda thing is not how baseball "fans" should look at the issue.
Hmm, well, I don't mind the every team-at least one player rule, per se. I don't think it comes up often enough to be a real issue. Arguably KC has no legitimate All Stars this year and Tampa Bay barely has one (Crawford, not Baez (sp?) in my opinion). That MLB increased the roster size to reflect that pretty much mitigates the potential problems I think.
Raffi should be there on his own merits. I think we should look mostly at what a guy does this year, and then place a lot of weight on his past performance and what he has meant to the game. There's absolutely no reason why Raffi shouldn't be there, under any objective or subjective standard - same with Jeter and Ensberg.
As far as the game counting, meh, it makes the thing more interesting I suppose. But, really, the All Star game should not be a factor in determining the outcome of the Series. Home field advantage is a pretty big deal, especially when guys like Halladay and Pedro won't be participating. The team with the best regular season record should have the home field - they' earned it over the course of a tough 162 game / 6 month schedule.
Yes, it is corrupt. I'm unfortunately still immersed - I'm married to a photographer & run much of his business. And even more unfortunate, it's all I really know how to do!
