I remember when I graduated, the chair of my department and the prof who inspired me to continue in academia and go on to grad school were both waiting there at the end of the stage. I think the chair hugged me. My few seconds on that stage were some of the best of my life. I can't wait till I go up there again in a couple of years to get my doctorate. I'll get to stay up there!
My convocation, fortunately, was in November (several years ago), so I didn't have to put up with the bullshit heat. Mind you, 1999 was the worst year of my life so, you know, meh...
And I like your long posts, they make me feel less self-conscious about my own.
You know, I think I'm a little sad that you're leaving
Lorna == Pure Evil Ogre! If they spent a little extra money on real food and drinks she wouldn't be able to afford a chauffeured car. I wish I was kidding. She's the highest paid head of a university in Canada.. By a fairly significant amount too I think. Anything I've heard about her has been extremely negative. (my gf goes to York also)
i would rather have endured the heat than listen to the validictorian speech at my grad. the guy went off on some political diatribe about saving the world and some other shit that didn't appeal to a room full of biz grads. he said if we wanted to hear a normal validictorian address, we should google it. needless to say after putting a tape recording of coldplay's clocks up to the mic, he was soon put out of his misery and given the hook by the dean.
we heckled him from our car later while he was posing for pictures outside the school.
hello lovely face...we are going to do our best to come see you before you move. sorry i've been away so much...i hope to catch you on MSN or something soon. XOoxOxXOXoxo
