Today, in 1945, the Japanese city of Hiroshima was destroyed by the first atomic bomb. Nagasaki was destroyed three days later.
How is this lucky for Japan? Follow me here.
There were options. First, an invasion. In which case, the Japanese people, a large number of soldiers, with Japan's best equipment, would fight all the way to the northern tip of their island. Second, target the farms in the north. Japan grown rice in a very delicate way. Conventional bombs would wreck the delicate dykes and pools and creeks. Japan had made an admirable attempt to switch to wheat, but in vulnerable to napalm. Shoot up every train, truck, and tractor. Sink the fishing boats. Continue the fire bombing of cities. Walk onto the islands unopposed. Any Japanese who had not starved would be to hungry to put up a fight.
Either way, the US wins. Either way, the Japanese people are exterminated, their culture extinguished.
So, for those of you opose the use of atomic weapons in World War II, that is what you would have had. Why do you hate the Japanese?
