Today has been a good day for soccer. Less than three months before they fire it up back in the Mother Country.
First, there was the Champions League Final. As a Barcalona fan, I dislike both these teams. Nevertheless, congratulations to fans of Real Madrid.
Then, a friendly between the US and Bolivia. After a late goal to down Ecuador 1-0 a few days ago, Our Boys routed Bolivia, 4-0. I really believe that the US will get out of the group stage fairly easily. Bolivia, maybe not so much. Their group starts with rapidly improving Panama, and then the small matters of Chile and Argentina.
Buena surete, amigos.
Now, I am watching Dallas at San Jose, after 70 minutes. No score. With so many players out, both teams are pretty sure that one goal will just about seal the three points. So they are more concerned with not giving up that goal than going out to find it.
People who do not know much about soccer often ask me which league I like the most. I always say Germany. Why? Is it the competition? No, Munich has the league wrapped up before the season starts. I do not mind that Celtic has a nice run of championships in Scotland, just as all good men do. Is it the quality? To some extent, though no team has the quality of Barcelona when they have it going on. Earlier this season, Barcelona just made it look unfair.
No. It does not have much to do with the game. Every televised soccer games focuses in on pretty women. No different in Germany. It is just the huge glasses of beer the women are holding at German soccer games. I think that is hot.
