Stick to the site. All it would take is a regram where you are linked, for them to find you. Yes, your name may not be on there, but someone could still recognize you. It sucks that you even have to hide anything but which is worth more to you? Not that SG isn't worth anything, but you have the site, IG is just an outside of the site connection.
As someone who experienced discrimination in a Master's program because of my modeling, I want to say be careful, but ultimately be you and be safe. It showed their true colors and didn't stop me. Your clients would have to know and search your alias to find you. You do you and fuck those who don't approve <3
I would keep all accounts, here and otherwise, extremely private. I would limit any risque modeling pictures to here and make sure that only your followers can see them. Unfortunately, even with those measures in place, it is still possible to find pictures of someone on the internet that they may not want found. After you have taken the necessary measures to protect your privacy and this great opportunity, you may want to have someone you trust and is tech/internet savvy to sit down with you and see what they can find on you so that way you know if the steps you have taken work and if not, what else can you do to prevent any potential problems.
@polonium Sadly, I completely agree )-: I love interacting on Instagram & posting sundies photos & using the SGH hashtags... But I really, really cannot risk my position in the program I worked my ass off to get into. It just makes me really sad. So silly that I even have to hide this side of me, but hey. Maybe one day the human form won't be so sexualized & offensive )-:
Do both. Making your account private works well because you control who sees what you post. Posting the riskier stuff here kinda of comes with the territory, and you can make your account private on here as well.
@rhody thank you so much for the advice! It just stinks because I'll actually be working with people at my university, whom many of which know about my modeling with SG. Of course, people in my program are completely supportive. It's just those who are actually over my program. It's scary to think I could actually be in some sort of trouble over something as trivial as a photo of my ass.
@madman74 that's actually great advice, thank you! It worries me because as stated above, a handful of people already know about my alias. It would just take that coming up in friendly conversation (which it has) to turn into something potentially threatening for my career. Thank you again!
I'm an actual marriage & family therapist. I'm also working towards my PhD in neuropsychology. What I e done is kept everything with my SG name all school stuff is under a different email my FB is private and under an alias. I have a linked in account that features my real name and my professional Twitter account so that people will not assume while searching me that I may be hiding things. It's weird but it has worked for years
Be as careful as you can. If you think it's feasible, would it be an option to ask for clarification privately with your training instructor? If your colleagues already know about the site, it only takes one pissed off or jealous person to ruin your world. I wish you the best of luck with this.
I feel this so hard <3 I want to be a professor, so my name and face have never been revealed on this site or in any connection to my pinup/fetish photography. The world has a long way to go..... I'd say this site is safe b/c it is fairly restricted to members, but IG is much more public and should be kept a little tighter.
When my family found out and freaked out on me, my boyfriends mom spent two hours looking up my real name and couldn't find any connentiom to me to this site, so it could help to search yourself on google to see about ANYTHING that comes up attached to you (like, my main results are actually of a hair stylist in Florida). That way it can help you figure out a process of elimination on what to remove or make private. The plus side to Instagram's privacy feature is that it does keep the new or wandering eye out, but there could be those who are following you that you don't know who could share your shit. It's really all about how comfortable you feel with taking those risks, but fuck, it's so dumb you can't be yourself simply because others are offended by the body. I wish you the best of luck with your decision and your program! 😁
I would make your account Private, they will search for your name and see what shows up. They may even search for your profile picture from Facebook to see what shows up! If your SG account is private then no one should be able to find you, especially if your real name is not connected to it!
I feel you on this :/ the problem with SG is that people screenshot photos from sets and post them on porn tumblrs and stuff like that. I've found my own pics online accidentally haha. I would just limit everything to members only and just accept the chance that any photos you post might be reposted online :/ it sucks how people view nudity so negatively that jobs are threatened over it. It's not like you're showing up to work naked 😂😂 lol
