I'm very happy to hear about the girlfriend. As far as your dad goes, I would say go see him. Or ask yourself "If he died tomorrow, are there things you would wish you had said" and if the answer is yes... well get your butt over there. Life is to short to wait for the worst to happen if order to fix things.
