Poetry is the closest anyone can come to describing emotion, i think, so it's no wonder that runs the gamut of human feelings. A bit romantic, I guess, but what the hell. I've done quite a bit of poetry. Never had the balls to get up and actually read it to a group of people, though.

did you get up and read some of ur poems? man, that would take some balls. i just write for myself and then read it aloud to myself sometimes. i had a poetry section in a class at UWM. the TA turned me off to writing for a bit. "oh listen to way this line sounds" whatever whatever needless to say, she didn't understand mine. "this word shouldn't be capitalized. why is the spacing this way?" mad mad mad arrrrrrggggggghhh! she didn't understand about 90% of the meaning of them either.
