The movie adaptation of the book "Choke" went to Sundance and won some award.
That sounds great, it was a great book.
Everything was looking good from the screenshots that I had seen for the past few months; naturally I was optimistic.
I saw a clip of Choke today online, and it was filmed like a porno.
Not that it's solely dedicated to sexual content per-say, but the non-sex parts of porn, you know, are shot in what appears to me to be too harsh of light with only direct objective stagnant camera angles on somewhat static actors.
This makes me very sad due to the fact that Chuck Palahniuk is one of, if not my favorite author. Not only that but Fight Club is also one of my favorite films, although not my favorite of Chuck's writings...I'd have to leave that one to either Survivor or Invisible Monsters.
Fight Club exhibited some pretty rad camera work, I just wish that Choke would live up to my expectations of a "Fight Club 2" esque experience, visually. Both books are quite dark, and the washed out porn look that Choke is supporting in the clips (that I've seen at least) aren't exactly what I'm looking for.
All in all I suppose that I'll give Choke a chance, but I'll try not to get my hopes up too high in anticipation of lameness due to the porn-like quality of the cinematography.
I'm hyped to see Paranoid Park though!!!
