Did you start the Anne Rice books yet? Also, have you ever read Bryan Lumley? He's got a ton of great books, I used to love his Necromancer series books, but got so far behind on them I finally gave up....but he's awesome too.

I would have been in the same boat if Flashmo hadn't been home that weekend... I TOTALLY understand why you see those images of people that have been gaping crater wounds from those bites. Seriously, he spent a whole entire weekend draining pus out of that thing for me, and if I hadn't gotten on antibiotics right away I would have been screwed. Those bites are freakin' god-awful!
