Normally it should be up to the photographer to scout out locations and secure for privacy. Being in a small town are there not locations just outside the town for an outdoor shoot?
I also live in a small village and for my first set, I went to the next city , in a swamp, in december, so cold, early, luckily no one was there, but it is risky, for the second set were photos of interior, the important is not the place, is the set, and your presence, of course, sometimes the most simple, a bed with white sheets can be nice :)
the first shoot i did was with a staff photographer and they actually rented a house b/c a bunch of girls were shotting there. second set (first set on here b/c i still haven't gotten my proofs from my first shoot) was at a friend of the photographer (i found that photographer through instagram). third was at my house. but @shadowc is totally correct, the photographer should know a bunch a places already.
@marmaladegirl @ameline thanks girls i really do appreciate the help and advice! :) @shadowc well thats good then hopefully the next photographer i go for will have some placed in mind :P thanks!
ya-- if I may...trust your photog, but pre-scout their selection to quell butterflies. if outside bring a 'shout-out posse' to alert you if the privacy may be suddenly interrupted. employ a handy robe for quick cover and plan on it being an exhibitionist thrill...that energy will transfer to print and you'll be spectacularly radiant! *can't wait for your result*
i know it sounds sketchy but i use facebook and look for photo groups on there, i have had a lot of success with it too. if there isn't one already set up you could try making one and adding people who know more people in the industry. It can help to do some Time For Print (TFP) shoots to build your portfolio and get to know more photographers.
lol I read that wrong. I did my shoots in a friend's art studio and I am setting up others in apartments of people I know. I went to the next city over and my photographers knew of some buildings that were abandoned and a car junkyard who's owner was cool with us being there. If you find a cool room it never hurts to ask if you can use it.
