Odd. I was just listening to a mix MD that had "Johnny Are You Queer" on it. Coincidence often seems to make freaky sense.
I think I've given up being angry with the close-minded people. I used to be very misanthropic and confrontational about it all, but now I just find that they make me sad. Perhaps I've given up the hope that they can change, that they can eventually find a way to open their minds and accept the things they cannot currently. Or it might be that I just don't currently have a lot of contact with those type of people, and if I did I would again be horribly angry with them. I understand the situation, and you have my sympathy. Bigots suck.
Shifting gears to a lighter topic, I agree with your reasons for the second movie in a trilogy being transitory because of the second and third films being tacked on after the first had been successful (viz. the Back to the Future trilogy), but I'm not entirely sure it holds up. I can't think of any planned trilogies other than LOTR off hand, but in that, The Two Towers seemed largely a bridge between the first and third films (granted, we haven't yet seen the third to properly judge if elements were actually bridged or will merely be left to dangle, but you get the point). I seem to recall book trilogies I've read having the same problem with the second book usually being the weakest of the three. Perhaps it's merely the nature of the beast; the first book has the beginning and the third has the end, so the second has to lack a certain amount of resolution.
I also agree that the danger of a quintology would be possible staleness. If the third film was the "peak," the series could be arranged in the Shakespearian dramatic format of five acts. It might work, but a fifth film that is comprised entirely of a denouement would probably only appeal to rabid fans of the series (but, hey, if you're not making a five part series for your most ardent fans, who the hell are you making it for?). The other option, I suppose, would be to go the route of only having the films loosely connected to each other; having little elements throughout the first four films that would turn into major elements in the fifth, but still allowing the first four films to stand on their own. But, I don't know, there's something romantic about a sprawling ten hour mess that really appeals to me.
Were I a billionaire, I really think I'd be tempted to drop half a billion on a five part series and then just vault the damn thing for a decade or so. Watching the outlandish stories of what the films were really about would be quite fun, I'd imagine.
Are there even special effects studios that do effects without CGI anymore? I kinda think it might fill a niche if there aren't.
When I first moved to AZ all the people at work thought I was gay because I have a "Super Bitch" sticker on my truck window. I bought the truck from my little sister, the sticker was hers.
I had no idea why people were uncomfortable around me for months. Then I came in to pick up my check with a girl I had started dating and we were holding hands. Then someone with an enquiry mind actually ASKED me.
At the end of the day it comes down to this: A tiny mind is a tidy mind. (grab last years WH40K callander and read the daily quotes. They are all about these sorts of people. Just insert "practioners of alternate life-styles" where ever you see the word "Alien")
ya see, that's not right!
i had to leave my home town
(i didn't go far)
because too many people

were just little judgemental bitches.
more power to ya. if your still in dayton alot of that is midwest bullshit. i don't know what it's like everywhere else but there is a ray of light....(was that a subliminal madonna? haha) it's getting better out here.
i don't know, i really don't know, they piss me off too! i'm just lucky to have been in the same general area long enough to have a really good group of friends.
Most people are just fucking morons, that is just the way it is and when you get more than one of them together one brain does the thinking for all of them so all you need to do is interject an idea to one and it becomes fact to all. Thats why SG needs to start its own nation, I think we should take over New Zealand , you got the mountians you got the beaches rolling green hills. Lets crash the country and take over That deal from Ballys was because I was a member before but then I got my linsence supended for a year and it would take me two hours bike there, who needs a gym after that.
Yes...that should suffice...
The dream is sometimes too real... I fear it may consume... Other days...I welcome the consumption.
