-During my recent adventures in Op-Shopping I picked up the Reality Bites soundtrack, on cassette no less, and I've come to the realisation that I don't know any girls between the approximate ages of 20 and 28 who don't know all the words to Lisa Loeb's song, Stay. Is there anyone out there who can contradict my observations?

Sorry, I'm a conformist. You saaaaaaaaay....

-As well as probing my friend's knowledge of melancholy 90's song lyrics, I've found myself asking this question of people a lot - What was the first piece of music (CD, record, tape, 8 track, whatever) you went out and bought of your own volition? Mine was the Oasis-Wonderwall single, I think. But the first CD I ever owned was Chupmunks Rock the House, bought for me by my gran. It contained covers of such classics as Wiggle It, U Can't Touch This and Ice, Ice Baby in which the word "baby" was replaced with "Alvin". Hell yes.

I need this. Go go gadget filesharing.

The first CD I ever bought on my own volition was either Vision Thing or beautifulgarbage. I'm not entirely certain which came first.

01/ oh oh oh the typewriter and telephone made me melt too. they inspired me to make this owl. i know he is not as sweet but i do like him.

02/ three pieces of traveling-circus themed hand embroidery? that is not boo, it is yay! i love handcrafts. please show us the pieces when you are finished. please!

03/ the peeps and i sing stay at karaoke, does that count? in high school, ethan hawke starred in a lot of our daydreams. sigh. but not anymore. who cheats on uma thurman? unbelievable!

04/ i cannot remember the first piece of music i bought with my own dollars, but i was very excited when my parents brought home new kids on the block's the right stuff. it was our first cd ever!

-I went to see The Science of Sleep last night with ampersand in celebration of his birthday.

Yay for birthdays. I really wanted to see this, but I fear I have left my run a little too late.

The problem with working your arse off for a mid-term assessment is that I now feel like I should be on holiday

I hear you. If only I would start on my practical works. 8 days and counting. I'm still starting at 3 blank canvas's and 1 just started one. I have become the queen of procrastination.
Your hand embroidery sounds interesting. Like, very. I hope you will speak more of it to me. smile

I can't help you. I love the song and know every single word. I'm prone to singing it as loud as I possibly can on various car rides. "I think that I'm throwing, but I'm throwwwwwn"

I honestly can't remember. I remember everything. Argh. I think maybe.. Nope. I'm going to have to hunt through old diaries to find the answer to this.

Horray for Gondry in general really. Ever so sweet, if a little heartbreaking. Finally saw Zodiac today, and it was also wonderful, but in a very different, not so sweet way. I feel like I'm going to choke on inspiration after this weekend.

And for the record, my sister is 25 and I'm pretty sure she owns both the Reality Bites soundtrack and the Lisa Loeb CD single.

Regarding first purchased tape, I've been thinking a lot, and I believe mine might have been a Chipmunks cassette also. Although mine was 'Born to Rock' which also featured the Chipettes. Who I am not afraid to admit I may have had a slight 9 year old crush on. Anyway, if it was that, it was bought with birthday money from the cassette stand at my local supermarket. I think my sister may have it now.

badrobot:
The first record I remember owning was a bootleg tape of the first Madness singles compilation; I think the first I ever bought was a 7" of Adam Ant's Goody Two Shoes.

I'm an old dude frown
sprat:
I got given Kylie Minogue's first CD (I can't actually remember what it was called now) for my 13th birthday. I loved it - and her - so much.

In Japan for another 10 weeks - 8 of work then 2 of travel before heading home. Can't believe how fast this year has gone! eeek

Have a little fun before doing you next load of work, if you can...?
ampersand:
Yeah, Alvin was a prick, but Britney was kinda hot, if a little whiney. Regarding the Chipmunks, I was always a Simon fan myself. For some reason I always liked the geeky character. No idea why ...

Also, you should know that I lurve my scarf. It's been very helpful over the past couple of mornings. Oh, and it goes without saying - but I'll say it anyway - that Rant is awesome. So. Very. Awesome.

Thank you!

kiss blush
badrobot:
I forgot you worked round the corner; it's been a bit pants for a while now, but stll... *dons black armband*
ampersand:
Yeah, I'm thinkin' I might come down to the next aussie hip-hop night at the Rosie and bust some phat rhymes with ma' peeps ... cause, y'know, that's just how I roll.

I have a doppelgnger!?! I wonder if he looks just like me, 'cept with a kinda evil goatee? I hope so. That would be awesome. Oh yeah.

OH! And you saw!! Blake came back!?! Yay! I'm so full of man love for him right now ... but, y'know, in a manly way ... *cough* yup. manly.

... carry on ...

Oh, and free drinks after work tomorrow. I'm gonna try to not drink any of them, and it's gonna be fun.
ampersand:
Holy Shit!!

First, Blake came back, now there's new Malloreigh!!!!

Best. Day. Ever.

biggrin
_elichrusos:

Hey look! You've got a doppelgnger!

I thought I noticed that yesterday too, but then I decided I must've been seeing things.

How dedicated to your job you are.

I'm all manner of diligence!

_elichrusos:
I also have the kareoke version of Stay. So, maybe I count twice (in case someone doesn;t have it, through no fault of their own).

Oh, sugar lips! I'm pleased you're getting out of a far from perfect arrangement but I'm sorry things with your mum didn't work out so brillantly.

Everything got put on hold so I wouldn't mess up her life, and that was by far the stupidest thing I could've done. Right now I'm working damn hard on not letting my will slip. I had similar determination in January, and I misplaced it somehow. She gets back on thursday, and that's the big test.

Incidentally, if you're here for Tori (which I'm be interested in but possibly too skint to go to) you could hang about for my birthday the day after. Just so you know...

That's a fairly serious selling point, just so you know. kiss

cleverthings:
I feel like a kitten that's been put in a cold bath and is being held under the shower head... spit, hiss, growl, little claws whirling! Growls at the stupid Logan and Parker... GROWLS!!! Only just saw the episode where Logan asks Veronica's permission at the end. Will see if this situation improves or implode from the rage.

Reality Bites fucking rocks. Plus - Stay is AWESOME. You say I only hear what I want to... I'm only hearing negative, no no no no!!
cleverthings:
Eeeeekk!!! I need to watch more Veronica. It will happen tomorrow night - can't contain myself!!! I woke up singing: "A long time ago, we used to be friends but I, haven't thought of you lately at all... Come on now sugar!!" And haven't stopped singing it since. Hilarity.

Oh yes - Stay is an AWESOME song!! smile
ampersand:
Yeah, it is pretty awesome, huh? Y'know what I did? I clicked the link and replaced the sentence above with one of my own creation. Genius! And oh so simple.
ampersand:
And don't you forget it!

Yay for tickets! And Friday!

biggrin
