So for anyone who's interested my friend Mini has a new ska punk radio show at the uni where she's at
Check it out your ears might thankyou.

In other news I've had the week off from my rather awful job and what's it done pretty much nonstop for the last 7 days that's right rain as in in the biblical God's cleansing the filth of humanity from the world kind of fashion. So that's pretty much meant I've been marooned in the house just watching God's deluge descending upon the murky overcast street.

So I've been watching several films that I've been meaning to watch for ages which are Hellraiser: Inferno, Hellraiser: Hellseeker & Hellraiser: Hellworld. I got them all off Ebay dirt cheap the only one I didn't get was Hellraiser: Deader 'cause some weasel outbid me. It's been a while since I've watched some good old straight to DVD horror-type-stuff. I've always had a bit of an affinity for franchise horror I can remember having the whole of the Friday The 13Th series on video all nine of them and that took some tracking down in the
preinternet days I can tell you. Most of them were pretty bad but occasionally you'd get something that was really well done I can remember one the films I can't remember which had a girl unwittingly releasing Jason from his chains at the bottom of Crystal Lake with her newly found telekinetic powers and the two of them have a big face off at the end of the film with the girl using her powers to throw various weapons at the
unstoppable Jason. So although the films after Hellraiser:Bloodlines are unconnected it doesn't really matter as they are well made with Hellseeker have some nice touches like the main protagonist played by Dean Winters having a conversation with the image of Pinhead in the rippling surface of a puddle of water down a secluded alleyway. stuff like that always impresses me more than stuff blowing up in some hollywood Blockbuster. Inferno is a little like Homicide Life On The Street with a police detective trying to track down the perpertrator of several brutal murders but slowly coming to the realisation that it all might be in his head or worse, I've always preferred Pinhead to the other main horror icons mainly due to Doug Bradley's cold, detached and intelligent delivery of memorable quotes like "Ah, the eternal refrain of humanity. Pleading ignorance, begging for mercy."Please, help me. I don't understand."

As far as striking visual imagery goes it's pretty hard to beat Hellraiser's Pinhead.

I'm intrigued to see what direction the "remake" will go in.

I managed to get out inbetween downpours to go see the new Aliens Vs. Predator Requiem film and I have to say I was pretty impressed with it it seems to blend the styles of the Alien films and the Predator films together really well along with up with some cool new stuff too. Another big difference between the rather flawed previous film is they've rather sensibly decided that it's not meant to be a kids film so lots of nasty stuff
happens, arms get severed, heads get blown off, faces get melted and other unpleasant things. It's far more in the spirit of the comic series it's based on this time 'round with the humans seens as nothing more than an annoyance and collateral damage to the Predator as he tries to clean up the Alien mess.
