Holy shit....where do I begin?
This weekend was absolutely amazing and much needed. I went to Austin for that hair show and couldn't have had a better time or spent it with any better people.
It was my first time being able to (legally) drink on 6th street and boy, did I take advantage of that. Being a Saturday night everything was super packed, but we still got to check out 3 or 4 places. Once 2 hit, we made the long trek back to our hotel and pretty much immediately passed out.
Getting up the next morning wasn't too bad. We still made it to the show around 10 a.m., signed in with our instructor so we could get hours and then walked around a bit. It was a lot smaller than I imagined but still interesting. There was lots of cool stuff for sale and Ben from Shear Genius was there teaching a class! Regardless, we didn't stick around for long seeing as we were all hungover and starving.
After getting lunch at Whole Foods (how I've missed it so!) we went down to the drag and did a little shopping. I found a few things on sale at Urban Outfitters, and the girls bought a couple dresses at some boutique. I noticed them getting tired though so I suggested we go back to the hotel to rest up.
They napped for awhile and I took a bath, which was a treat in itself since I only have a shower at home. When they got up we went out to eat at a frou frou Italian place where I had the best pasta of my life! Seriously, it was gorgonzola and pear stuffed tortallinis topped with cream sauce, arugala, and walnuts. If you're ever in Austin, I recommend you go try it. Taverna is the name of the restaurant, and while it's expensive, it's worth it.
We went back out to sixth that night and met up with our instructors...it was weird. I think they found it just as awkward as we did though, seeing as they didn't stay too long. After the second bar, we decided to...drum roll please...go get tattoos! Yes, I know drunk tattoos are never a good idea but it's already happened so there's no use scolding me about it. We all got a pair of shears, mine is maybe two inches and on my forearm. I need to get someone to take a picture of it for me, I keep trying but my left hand is too shaky!
We got back at like 4 in the morning and were pooped. We tried getting up around ten but it took us forever to get ready and outta there. We walked around the hair show for awhile, grabbed some lunch, and went back to buy a few things only to go to the "bargain bin" in which we were handed a large brown paper bag and were told whatever we could fit in there would be ten bucks...I ended up with 34 different products. I won't have to buy shampoo or conditioner for YEARS.
After that we left and had a very quiet drive home. I was so tired I was hallucinating. Upon arrival back home, I was greeted very fondly by my kitty, Poofs, and found a sweet letter from the VA saying I'm going to get an additional $5,000 next month just for the heck of it. Yep, it was a great weekend.
I skipped school today because I have a lot to do before heading out tomorrow for COACHELLA! I. am. so. PUMPED. I am so lucky to be able to take these trips. Two of my best friends are now pregnant, so it's my goal to take advantage of my freedom while I can.
I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job.
