Fallen comrade ceremony tonight. One soldier killed by the suicide bombing in Kabul today. I don't know his name or anything else about him except that he must have been part of Task Force Warrior sine he was killed on the gate at Camp Eggers. Hard to imagine the shock it must have been to his buddies. A guy goes out for guard duty and dies. I have lost count of how many of these ceremonies I've been to since June. The two hardest were the one for the nine 173rd guys killed in Wanat and the one for the three Marines killed in Afghanya the day after I was with them. I've been locked up on Bagram fo two weeks and am going crazy. I can't wait to get into the field. The thousands of people here who never get off this base have no idea there is a war. The dishonesty of this places sickens me. Two or three days out living with the Afghan Army does much to clean away the unreality of this place. The good news is that it has been raning and snowing for two days. Water means successful crops and that means fewer young men will join up with the Taliban for money. I bet half the guys fighting for them do it for the money.
