that wasn't at all boring to read...

i don't do a very good job of explaining why i like what i like either as far as i can tell, and yet the people i know regularly come to me asking questions about bands and asking for recommendations. the best way i can describe what i like is that it's got to ring true to me and it's got to grab me in just the right way. Sage Francis and Dresden Dolls are good examples of artists who do that for me, (hence why i decided to respond) but they're just 2 among the many. i also like Tori's first few albums (she lost me with Choirgirl), and all of Fiona's stuff, but i prefer Bjork and Poe over the majority of female artists.

anyways, it sounds like you and i like music for similar reasons, but i won't shove anything in your face to find out for sure. wink

*goes to check out Regina Spektor and Immortal Technique*

I totally thought 'Show your Bones' was weak - what a diappointment! I still love them though... I heart NY bands in general, but not The Strokes! biggrin

i can never really explain what i like about something. it's surprising i've lasted in music retail for so long!

i've been meaning to check out Regina. she came into the store and bought some cd's the last time she was here. of course, i missed out on that.

while i do love some Joni Mitchell songs, i can see not digging her. she put on one of the best shows i ever saw.

i like your idea of music bringing out the beauty in things you wouldn't necessarily think that about!
