I'm not getting any pleasure from the things that would normally put a smile on my face. I'm sick and tired of always feeling like shit. It's scary as Hell.
You had mentioned in the past about money troubles. I didn't realize the gravity of your situation until today. I'm so sorry. I bekieve you have a better understanding of what I'm dealing with than most.
Yes, moving out of my current apartment is necessary. Where to go is the dilemma. I've been living in my current neighborhood for about 30 years.
I wrote in my current blog about my difficulties in securing employment. It's like a viscious cycle. job hunting, rejection, frustration, depression. And on it goes. The scariest thing is that I'm running out of ideas.
I've taken some relatively small steps that may give me an opportunity to move forward. I documented them in my latest blog. I realize that things won't change overnight, and that I have to do things incrementally. I hope it works.
I'm worried about you, based on some of the things you spoke with me about. From what I gather about you, we have several things in common. The most obvious is your intelligence and ability to understand where you're at and what you need to do to get where you need to be.
I sincerely hope that you aren't hampered by the kinds of demons that have held me back lately, such as depression and feelings of being overwhelmed. In other words, I hope your road out of whatever bad place you might find yourself is a lot easier than mine.
Forgot to ask. Would you recommend Mae-Ann and I see Valkyrie or Frost/Nixon? She's not very political and I'm already well aware of the story behind the plot to kill Hitler.
Come to think of it, perhaps there's a third movie option you might want to recommend.
Speaking of Valkyrie. Did you ever see a movie called, Night of the Generals? It came out in 1986, I think. The story behind Valkyrie, while not the main focus of the movie, it is an integral part of the film.
I respect your opinion, so "Benjamin Button" it is. Mae-Ann says that her son has a bootleg copy of the film. I have my doubts that these copies are any good, quality-wise, but she assures me that it's watchable. I guess I'll get to see it soon. I'll let you know my thoughts on it.
I wanted to discuss this here, instead of in the Baseball group, since I don't want to have my head taken off.
I may be the only person on the planet that doesn't feel that Nolan Ryan belongs in the Hall of Fame. I admit I don't like the guy personally, but that's only part of the reason.
I don't care how many no-hitters or strikeouts he had. A no hitter is a win, just as a five or six hitter is a win. A strikeout is an out, just as a popup or groundout is an out. So , I'm not all that dazzled by his no-hitters or strikeouts.
Most people I've talked to and heard in the media don't believe that Don Sutton belongs in the Hall of Fame. Yet, his won-lost is 68 over 500, while Ryan's is only 32 over. Sutton'e ERA is about equal to Ryan's. Even Phil Niekro has a better lifetime record than Ryan, as does Jack Morriis.
People argue that Ryan played on some bad teams. Well, how many bad teams did Carlton play on? Yet Carlton's record puts Ryan's to shame.
The same people that disagree with Sutton and Niekro being in the Hall because they were "accumulators" disregard that Ryan played for what seemed like forever.
Take Frank Thomas for example as a double standard. There are those who would question his selection to the Hall and yet consider Ryan's election a no-brainer. Thomas was, and probably will always remain the greatest hitter in the history of the White Sox franchise. People knock him because of the DH thing. They want to ignore everything else and hold that against him. Yet, you've got a barely .500 pitcher entering the Hall with much fanfare. I'd rather vote for Harold Baines, a true gentleman and wonderful hitter. Should he be maligned because he suffered a terrible knee injury and was unable to play the field, even though he was a great fielder with a rifle arm before he got hurt?
Maybe this all came down to Ryan being a good looking guy with a beautiful wife and kids. Maybe it came down to Ryan being more friendly to the press than say,--------------Jim Rice, who certainly shouldn't have had to wait nearly this long to get in.
I'm pleasantly surprised that you agree with me. Not too many people would. It's gratifying to know that a certain steroid infested bum from Texas is dead in the water when it comes to the HOF.
Mae-Ann and I saw "Benjamin Button" last night. We loved it. What an amazing and well done concept. I don't think I would have chosen to see this movie if you hadn't reccomended it so highly. I thank you for that.
One thing was for sure. The movie lasted 2 hours and 48 minutes. The fact that it ended while Katrina was closing in, there would have been no sign of G.W. Bush even if the movie had gone 10 hours and 48 minutes.
I posted some good news for a change. You've been one of my closest friends and biggest boosters, so I wanted you to be aware of something positive for a change. I also took the liberty of mentioning your name.
How are you? I sincerely hope your situation has improved and that you're in a good frame of mind.
I hope whaever it was that kept you away from SG has been resolved in a posotive way and that it's behind you. Remember, I'm here for you if need be.
I realize that, although my outlook is improving, there are still practical concerns that may be difficult to overcome. At least I feel that better things are possible.
I'm sorry to hear about your precarious employment situation. Things are really scary everywhere you look. I'm thinking that, even if I'm rerady, willing and able to handle a full-time job, there won't be one available.
I'm not sure if you post in the Liberal Politics group. Anyway, I wanted to mention that the group leader, Holden_Caulfield, was killed in a car crash last November. I got to know him through PMs last year. He was a really dedicated, patriotic human being. This is a terrible tragedy.
I saw "The Wrestler" last night. The film was a tour de force for Mickey Rourke. As far as I'm concerned, he should win the Best Actor Oscar.
The last movie I saw him in was The Rainmaker. I thought he stood out in a relatively minor role. That was a long time ago. It's obvious that he's far from washed up as an actor. Marisa Tomei was quite a revelation in The Wrestler as well, in more ways than one. I totally recommend this movie.
Ah, an Eagles playoff Sunday! It feels like it's been forever!!
