The Star Wars universe failed at developing women and minority characters. I'm not familiar with Mara Jade but she sounds pretty cool. I hope the new movies make major progress.

She and Luke Skywalker's banter while they're stuck in the forest in the Thrawn series is one of my favorite parts of any EU book I've read. Hilarious and real. Did you know they made a Mara Jade card for the Star Wars CCG? I always wanted it but it was super hard to get. The art is pretty cool too.

She's a kick ass character!!! There are so many in the books you never know about from the movies. I do hope Mara plays a role in episode VII

I never got to far into the EU, but I did love her role in the The Heir To The Empire trilogy. Shame that it ended like that for her, but yes you could totally cosplay her as you are a total bad ass!

Mara Jade is one of the best characters I've ever read....period, bar none. She has a depth that few characters can match. The only Star Wars character I'm more fond of is Kal Skirata, also from the EU. He's a Mandalorian with a sense of honor and family that contrasts nicely with his brutal and violent nature. The Expanded Universe is filled with characters like these two.
