This was the most involved I have been in an SG controversy, I guess b/c it involved not only several people I admire, but b/c of the issues of empowerment/degradation of women.
Anywho, I'm glad, too, that they dropped the set. Too bad this had to be one of your first experiences with the site. Hope it's all up from here for you.
Welcome to SG! And welcome to NC? or have you been here a while?
So, I was clicking to read about your vegetarian dog, but clicked on your profile and read your blog. I use the definition art is any group of objects arranged in a particular manner by an agent (I used to go with human, but gorillas, parrots, dolphins, dogs and cats changed my opinion). Just because something does fall under the large umbrella category of art, does not make it sacred and does not mean that it should be automatically accepted by all. I very much agree with your bag of shit analogy. To take it further some serial killers have considered their murders to be art, by putting them in prison should we feel guilt for censoring them? I think not.
The real horror of this was watching a large number of people express their overwhelming, creepy approval for the set. Followed by a large number defending it with "tooth and claw." Idiots.
Fortunately, only one accidental approval from a person on my friends list, and I was happy to see that the community did not stand for this kind of thing.
So, now that is out of the way.
Hello, I haven't see you here before, but you seem pretty cool.
My friend did a shit and covered it in glitter for his final artwork at university - he studies fine arts. I went and saw it at the yearly art showing on tuesday. His teachers loved it...
Well I hope I pass the "creep" test!
