This will be the last journal I write from the beach
this year. We get kicked out tomorrow morning and my
aunt said we should leave around 11.
I got a blister on my big toe from all the boardwalk
walking.
I forgot to mention a weird thing that happened the
other day. In the morning we were in the condo and my
aunt suddenly cried out and rushed to the sliding
glass door facing the beach. She was saying the
dolphins were going crazy, jumping out of the water
and frolicking and all that. I didn't really see the
dolphins going crazy, but what we all saw was a ton of
FISH swimming in a huge school right near the beach,
flopping around in the water right by the surface.
People were swimming out there and it must have felt
really weird to be surrounded by all these fish. Mom
said the dolphins must have corralled all those fish
so close to the beach. Do dolphins do that?
Later we mentioned it to the umbrella/beach chair
rental guy and he said something about bluefish, so I
guess that's what kind they were?
Anyway last night I was feeling restless so I went out
to the balcony by myself. It was about 9pm. I had
some nice "alone time"... until I crossed my legs and
felt an ouchie, then saw a large bee/wasp looking
thing crawling up my leg. I felt another ouchie on
the other leg. The damn thing was biting or stinging
me! I had crossed my legs on it and it was pissed.
I went inside to get away from the now-angry bug, and
told my family what had happened. My aunt had some
Benadryl with her so she gave me one, with the warning
that it would probably make me sleepy. I probably
didn't need it but I wanted to make sure I didn't have
some bad reaction.
Mom wanted some soft ice cream so we walked out onto
the boardwalk and found Kohr Bros. on the main street.
It was all crazy and crowded so after she got her ice
cream we high-tailed it out of there and back to the
condo.
Later on I started getting sleepy from the Benadryl
and when I get sleepy I get hungry so I ate all this
stuff. Then I went to sleep.
I woke up really early and looked outside and it was
all foggy or rainy or something so I went back to
sleep. Then mom pissed me off by moving her legs
around in her sleep and snoring really loudly. But I
got more sleep anyway.
Then I got up again around 9am and nobody was awake
still but I was hungry so I walked myself past the
main street where there's this restaurant in a house,
but there were a ton of people out front waiting to be
seated so I continued down that street where I knew
there was a breakfast place I'd been to before,
Sammy's Kitchen.
It was bad. All the food tasted bad, even the hash
browns which were in fact real hash browns. But they
were too bitter and icky to eat. The bowl of fruit
was almost all watermelon (grainy texture) with a
little cantaloupe in the center and I don't like
cantaloupe. The eggs were gross. Oh well.
Anyway I walked back and my aunt was making breakfast
for everybody so I sat at the table but I didn't
really eat anything except I drank a little milk and
had a piece of pita bread (yeah pita bread for
breakfast, we were using whatever was left). She had
made an omelet with freakin' green beans.
After that the girls went their way and we just sat
around doing nothing for a couple hours. I had some
quality time with my new
plush
doggie and kitty from the claw game (you can
also see mom's dolphin in the pic). In fact mom sewed
up the kitty's tail which wasn't completely attached
to its little kitty butt. Neither mom nor I really
know how to sew but she took over after I threaded the
needle because I REALLY don't know what I'm doing and
she *sort of* does. The thread was kind of yellow but
the cat is white so if you look close you notice it.
Anyway eventually we went to the pool and I sat under
the shade this time working on a sudoku puzzle (I'm
still on the easy ones but some of them aren't all
that easy, I keep getting stuck).
Then we went to the beach and I was determined to
satisfy you people with Link from Zelda made of sand.
So I bought a $10 bucket set ($$$) at the toy and kite
place and joined my family under the umbrella. I
collected some water (and backed into the sand ledge
trying to keep my toe band-aid from getting wet but it
was futile because to get any water I had to get wet).
Took three trips to get enough water to make Link.
Here he is:
sand
Link. Pretty, uhhh, basic. Yeah, that's the
word
But you wanted it, you got it.
I couldn't bring myself to make a sand Annie. I just
couldn't do it. I mean, I considered doing the cover
of her album since she's covering her face, but I
couldn't even do that. What a dork.
But I did listen to Anniemal there on the beach with
my big "I'm pretending I'm a DJ" headphones, and could
still hear the crashing waves through them. It was
really nice.
After a while we were hungry but it was like 3pm so it
was between lunch and dinner. We went to the Ram's
Head anyway and it was actually really nice, we joked
and laughed. I learned that my uncle, who's Polish,
is actually a count, so my aunt and cousin are
technically countesses. No joke. My aunt doesn't
really take the title seriously, but my uncle's family
history is important to him. More on that another
time I guess, if anybody cares.
When we walked back my aunt needed to find an ATM and
we went to one right by the games and puzzles store.
I didn't go in but I think I kind of have a duty to or
something so I may go back later tonight if it's still
open. I remember never being interested in anything
they have, but I'm more into puzzles these days so
they might have something I want. (p.s. the ATM
wasn't working so we went to the one in the Grotto
Pizza on the boardwalk.)
Now we're back home for the evening. We have a ton of
food left over from the various restaurants we've been
to so if any of us gets hungry we'll just raid the
fridge.
This has been a good vacation. Thank goodness my
antidepressant started working when it did or I
might've been utterly miserable and made everyone else
miserable too. Good timing.
I will miss the beach. I didn't think I would. It's
been nice.
