Instagram Censorship—Inherently "Inappropriate"

I woke up this morning to more disappointing (but unsurprising) news about increased censorship on Instagram, where a new algorithm will demote content that is deemed "inappropriate" even if it doesn't break Instagram's guidelines. This is coming on the wake of FOSTA/SESTA and follows Facebook new policy where any type of sexual language will be removed. To me, this is emblematic of the way the U.S. is both obsessed with and terrified by sexuality and sensuality, especially when related to femininity. Bodies are not inherently sexual, and even when they are that doesn't mean that they should be considered inappropriate. My body is not inappropriate, my sexuality is not inappropriate, my art is not inappropriate—they're human. All we can do is keep creating and keep having this conversation, but I hope someday we can exist in a world where bodies are not automatically sexuality and sexual bodies are seen as a normal and healthy part of life. How do you feel about these rules and guidelines on social media? How do you think we should address them?

"Inappropriate" photo attached, because luckily I can still show my body however I like on this beautiful site.

This is a situation when ello suddenly becomes relevant, but who uses it? Also, Sony has recently been imposing their new global anti-sex law on video games for PS4. No more sexually suggestive themes, but guns and gore are a-ok! We are living the end of times! :-O

If clothing acceptable on a public beach is punished then we have to wonder if Instagram is based in Saudi Arabia. The  madness is spreading.
