I commend your wife for speaking up. i've always believed that keeping silent when hearing a raicist remark is akin to agreeing with it.
It's good that the two women were able to put this behind them. I had a friend who spouted racist remarks often. i usually bit my tongue, since i considered him a close friend.
His brother was my best friend. He passed away in 1998 of a massive coronary in the arms of his brother. Anyway, the constant racial remarks finally got to me and I began challenging him about what he was saying. This led to raised voices and hurt feelings.
One day during lunch, we worked for the same company, he went on his by now almost daily rant. I exploded and said some very personal things about him, which led to a shouting match and more personal attacks on both sides.
This was the last straw for both of us. The friendship was over and the hurt feelings lingered, at least in my case. t was very uncomfortable at work, since he and I worked in the same department. Mercifully perhaps,, the company merged and vacated New York, causing all of us to be laid off a few months later.
I hate the careless little remarks that some people flip off like that so "innocently". They are ignorant and hurtful. I'm glad your wife said something about it! I'm not usually one to make a huge deal, I usually say something like, "Dude, really?", or, "Was that really necessary? Not cool!". Awesome you got to take Merlin out for a romp, I bet he had a blast! I can't wait until I can play with our new muppet dog, Chuck! Anyhoo, take care!
Naw, there were 2 more above that fell off. They were supposed to be armor plates, but they were in fact cut CDs painted and held on with hot glue! It was fun tho.
