"Look's like somebody's got a case of the Mondays" - God, that is the best line from Office Space. I'm feeling a tad run down, after only getting a few hours of sleep and having had a good time all weekend. I think I'm going to get to bed a bit early tonight, for a change.

I posted my sample blog entries for the politics / international affairs editor position. You can read them here if you're interested. Honestly, it's definitely not my best writing, I'm still trying to adapt my style to this format, so I think it will take a little bit of time. I'm not used to being so... informative. Or brief. (Don't believe me? Check out my average journal entry length. tongue ) I'm still hopeful of getting the position though. I'll just have to wait and see at this point.

Today was pretty uneventful. I came in late to lab meeting, as I woke up at 8AM and lab meeting starts at 9AM, 170 blocks uptown from my apartment. And I refuse to leave my place without drinking coffee and taking a shower. But whatever, it wasn't the end of the world.

I also learned how much more productive I am in the lab without the internet. We had a temporary internet outage this afternoon, and I way more accomplished than I typically do on a Monday afternoon. Which isn't all that surprising, I'm well aware of how much time I waste (here and elsewhere) but slightly disconcerting nonetheless... I would like to get my degree at some point.

I'm about 10 pages away from finishing Lolita, as my endless ploughing through the western literary canon goes on. I have to say, while the prospect of having a sexual relationship with a 13 year old is repellant on several levels, it's beautiful the way Nabokov turns it into such a poignant love story. You really get a sense of exactly what Humbert is feeling the whole time, how he goes from fetishist obsession, to parental caring to true love, and all while following a neat Aristotelian character arc. Ah, to be able to write like Nabokov... but that's setting the bar awfully high, I think.

On a completely different note, I've recently realized how much of a dork I am with journal comments. biggrin I've developed a system of keeping three windows open simultaneously, so that I can check my "friends stuff" tab, the comments that people made in yesterday's journal, and then open a new one to make a comment, all so that I don't have to go back and forth continuously opening and closing windows. I never realized I was so OCD. Maybe I should self-medicate.

OK, tha'ts all for this evening. Hope everyone else is doing fabulously...

yay!
i think this will be fun.
i know with the ce stuff its kinda hard to keep it short.
music is easier, but at the same time its easy to keep it too short. lucky for me i was able to talk to one of the other music editors today and i dig him a whole lot. the other seems cool as well. but we've only exchanged words through email. i'm glad i get to do this with them and not elitist music snobs who wont give you the time of day cos you dont know some rock stars moms name...ya know? anyways, congrats again! and i shall see you on friday?
