People seem to be easily distracted, so when a disaster like this is happening in slow-motion, people lose interest.
But then even when a disaster like hurricane Katrina happens, people lose interest. And are then really surprised to learn that New Orleans is still a mess.
Reminds me of the movie Heathers. It's been a few years since I've seen it, but I remember a joke along the lines of someone asking for donations for food aid in Africa, and one of the Heathers saying, "God, aren't they fed yet?".
NJ is too busy with local bullshit politics. The teachers union is currently in a pissing match with the governor, who is trying to make some necessary cuts and adjustments because the state is broke.
Yeah I've been kind of surprised that so few people are talking about it anymore. I seems many people think "that dome thing they ere talking about on the news" solved the problem, but it didn't.
The above quote is also funny since for the Louisiana wetlands it's not just a sheen:

Yeah, I do keep an eye on that but it's true that most people don't seem to care much... Chernobyl-like might be a bit dramatic but yeah, I can see how it's impact will be long term, which is why I wonder why people care so little about it, as if someday we'll just fix it and go on as if nothing had happened.
Valdez took 9 months to stop ? See I didn't knew that, it was long before I was even born... and I though this one was taking a long time to get it stopped...
If it hits the eastern seaboard, however, I doubt that anyone will forget about it again...
