@missy and @rambo gave us a blog topic last week that I really wanted to write about but didn't have a chance to sit down and do until just now. They asked us all, "where's your favorite place you've ever traveled?" - and as a navy brat, I kind of went all over the place (at least in this country), but I never really just got to explore and visit.
A few years ago, when my relationship was still a secret, during a very grey and wintery February weekend, my boyfriend and I stole away to Nantucket. Nantucket is about an hour ferry ride (or short 15 minute puddle jumping plane ride) off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It's amazing. Over the next couple years I would have the chance to visit Nantucket in winter again, in spring time just before the summer season started, and in the summer time during the Nantucket Film Festival.
Nantucket is gorgeous, guys. In the winter there's crazy wind and it's cold, sometimes a little snowy. But it's secluded and it makes for the absolute best hiding spot. No one could find you out there. We used to stay in this house in Tom Nevers, that my boyfriend's father took care of. A three story house with a second floor porch good for smoking and sneaking away to. Wood floors, weird artwork on the wall, it belonged to a gay couple from NYC who only went maybe 2 weeks a year. They didn't mind us going as long as we cleaned up after ourselves. It was our house, we had our favorite blanket there, and watched tv and ate snacks together. When Monika and I went out to help work the festival, we all stayed there together, and ate breakfast outside in the sunshine.
The beach is great to just watch the sea, even in the grey, blustery winter. Or we'd park and just look at the lighthouse. The little town is mostly shut down in the off season, but there are my favorite spots to eat and window shop. It really just seems like magic. I really want to grow old there, in the old whaling town. I'm getting sad now just thinking about it.
magic- for real
I have plans to get this windmill as my sleeve on my right arm.
the house we used to stay at, which has since been sold :(
I'll write more one day soon, I promise. In the meantime, I hope you don't tire of my instagram updates!
