University is well worth it, even if it does cost an arm and a leg these days. You'll make a bunch of new friends and do all kinds s*** with them. And you'll learn stuff too. Hopefully...

I went to UCL here in the city. I had a great time (although I ended up hating my course)

It's worth it! Though it's been a long time, that I've been there. Made a lot of friends and broadened my horizon. GO FOR IT.
Regarding your lame parents, I say (being a parent myself): Shame on them! I think that's incredible.

Meh it was way too hard. Started out ok but it ended up being more than I could cope with, and the last year wasn't particular enjoyable. That's what you get with scienc though. Don't let me put you off though. Photography sounds way more interesting and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
