I'm travelling with a slightly indecisive bunch. I was all ready to accept my things as they were: I95N, nothing but roadside lameness b/w Florence, SC where we stayed and anything going north, so why not just hit Waffle House and get it over with. But we had to launch into scoping out some mysterious fantasy quaint small-town shack of a restaurant -- some romantic notion of rustic wonderfulness that'd make breakfast out of civil war ghosts and pixie dust and the quaint beauty of tha South...

yeah, right. Guess I cruised down to Macon in an illbegotten past too many times to have any romantic visions of petite dejeuner dans le Sud d'Etas Unis etc. blah blah..I wanted a fucking cup of coffee, and when the tide turned and talk of, "Let's just hit the road," started happening I started to see red. Man.... get over it. Coffee....small town off of 95? Good luck.

Anyway, Hi. enough bitterness, we made it to the Happy Chap and all was good. Everything swimmingly went along. Did laundry after 5 days of I don't want to say...hung out w/ a good friend and had a BANGIN' mexican feast and a Mojito to die for...rolled into the Cat's Cradle singing this song that starts out "Hello, Jaded Fucks/ Glad you paid fifteen bucks/to stand around/and look at the ground/listen to the lovely sound" and some lines about getting the scene card punched. Surprise, they clapped for 2 encores, but didn't seem to get into it during the entire show.

The best part was afterward (we didn't get our Makers) when we went to the Orange County Social Club and everyone was hanging out. Got 2 Makers in and shittiest shot of Tequila I've had in a while. Hornitos, absolutely. Never less ever again.

So anyway, I re-met someone I'd toured with years ago when Trans Am played w/this one NC band on their last tour ever. Looked down the bar and saw this woman that really really really was striking. Like beyond the bullshit realm of striking, I mean it in the purest, most real sense. Like fresh morning rain or a sunset or a the smell of leaves in the fall or a beach or whatever. She was STRIKING! And then I looked around and realized that was probably that woman from Superchunk who I've never taken a good look at, but have heard my friends belly ache about since indie rock was invented. If that was her I understand what all the fuss was about. I hope it wasn't, but I don't care. This person I saw was a vision of blinding light and I looked away and didn't look back.

Instead, I'm here thinking about you and maybe you, and always you (god dammit!!) and wondering what the future holds. I'm ready to fall again. Ready like I'm ready to ditch the past and start over. I know what I want.

So we drank. I liked that bar. I liked the vibe. Right now is surreal and I can't really describe it 'cept there a snore coming from about 5 feet away from me that could call for tactical nukes.
