I'm kinda having similar issues myself. What happens if you meet someone who you like well enough, but who doesn't have the magic? Do you pass on the opportunity even though it could be fun? Or do you give it crack even though it might not work out, and you might end up hurting them? Tough call. I'd say life's too short to blow the opportunities that present themselves, and I guess as long as you're honest and take nothing for granted then no harm done? Go for it dude, and good luck...
You should stop reducing yourself to "all of my baggage." Even after I found out, it didn't make a difference about you. It didn't change the person that I love. I have always been more worried about the hemo thing because of my past experience with the Bleeding German and his total lack of responsibility. But you're not a tard like him.
And why does love have to be so serious? I'm so in love with JP and it's fun. We just hang around and act think sillies. Yeah, sure, we live together and have all that "serious" stuff to deal with, but it's nice to have someone cool to do it with. Love is in part about the little stuff, like watching him sleep or giving each other gifts of Swedish fish and scratch off tickets. Yes, we're corny but it's ok. Love it basically about having someone to take care of you and to take care of. It makes you have a worthwile reason to get up in the morning. I love my monkey.
