I, on the other hand, am on my way THIS VERY NIGHT to some fancy-schmancy steakhouse for a fully comped meal, courtesy of my girlfriend's work.

This will be the first red meat I've eaten in over seven years. But fuck it. It's free.

I hear ya...I've tried several times, only to find myself suddenly eating a big steak. The problem is that you're trying to eat in ways that we've been told all our lives we're not supposed to eat. That is, suddenly, we're trying to make what we've always been told are side dishes the main dish. That's a hard concept to really accept on the most basic level, even if you can accept it intellectually.
alyssum:
I did that at one point as well (actually when I was about the same age as you are smile ).

Gotta echo everybody else's sentiments. Watch your protein intake, watch your vitamins. Figure out what feels satisfying, so you don't miss the meat. Oh, and make sure you get other kinds of fats. Nuts, oils, that sort of thing. That really helps make you feel full, I found. And good luck! biggrin
bcmark:
Yeah, beans and peanuts. Peanut butter always helped me when I was craving protein. Also, find a really good vegetarian place and eat there all the time at first. Developing eating habits early on helped me when I went vegetarian.

By the way, that $40 porterhouse steak I had on Saturday was deeeeelicious!
