my approaching birthday is always bittersweet. in 2006 i was so excited around now as my graduation was coming up and things were going well. i called one of my good friends in the early morning of my birthday and found out a week later that he had passed away due to kidney failure. i sorely miss him but beneath the sadness i feel immensely lucky to have known him at all.

it's been almost two years and it's amazing how fast the time goes by - and how untrue the statement that "time heals all" really is.
