Blog homerwork: the time you won a prize or contest

Hi, there!

@missy @rambo @eirenne @jacqueline

I decided to fill an old homework topic because it’s strictly related to my family and I miss them so much right now (thank you, coronavirus!)

I’d like to talk about two different contests. The first one was a “team” victory.

First of all, you probably don’t know that I have a bigger sister. She’s five years older than me and we get along so well. Since childhood she has always been interested in photography and she used to take pictures of anything. When I was 9 years old, we decided to try and take some pics for a contest in our small town. The theme was “Countryside life” so we went to our grandparents’ house to have a true Italian countryside feeling.

Here you can see two of the three final photos. I was super afraid of those chickens! They tried to eat my feet :D anyway, we won the second prize and we received two gifts: a puzzle (I was obsessed this those things at the time) and a brand new camera.

A year later my school took part in a regional contest sponsored by on the biggest blood and organs donators association. We had to write a short essay about the importance of donating (blood in particular) in our society. That time I decided to talk about my mum’s dad. He passed away a year before my birth, but I knew that he was marrow donor. I was terribly honest. I wrote down that he has been a troublesome teenager (for real!) but living during the WWII and working in a hospital made him understand that some people need help from those who are luckier than them. That was the reason why he started to donate blood first and then marrow.

I won the first prize with that contest (a small amount of money that I donated to the same association) but being able to make people remember and talk about my grandpa was the nicest gift I could ask for.
