I like poultry-- non spicy. My food of the moment is phad thai. Is there a good Thai place around? I keep ordering from Jandara when I am at work since there's one in DC but I'd like to find a place to stop by before I go to work so I don't have to tip the delivery guy.
Good Gawd. I guess I'll have to come back to tomorrow to catch up on my mythology.
But for now: Who needs business? Its all psy-ops, all artificial organizations, which is to say, all organizations.. I'm always amazed at how poor, poor, poor American management is. At least in the places I've worked in. Defies common sense, really.
The reason that having a PhD is negatively correlated with business success is (1) people don't get PhDs to become businesspeople; (2) it is the stupid business majors who are in charge of the businesses, (3) the people in charge (the stupid business majors) are fantasically preoccupied with putting PhD hirees "in their place," which is emphatically under them, because of . . . jealousy.
And, while I think there are a lot better things to do with one's decades than get a PhD, you DO have to have more than nonmoron modicum of sense and a toleration for bordom. You generally have be pretty brilliant, or you aint gonna make it. People on the outside have no f'n concept how hard it is, how effort alone will NOT suffice.
I'll read the rest tomorrow. But remember, all business and no play makes Jack a dull boy . . .
Your post made interesting reading - I work for a start-up company based on a few bright ideas
Looking forward to reading all about the development of your new businesses - I remember reading in your log a few weeks ago that you felt things were getting a little too safe - is this what happens when you start to feel too safe?
Do you know what the irony is? I trained as a clinical hypnotherapist/psychotherapist and started smoking after doing a succesful "stop smoking" session for a friends husband. I'd smoked on and off a little before that point - but after, I couldn't get enough. This was last year, *he* hasn't smoked since lol!
My company is a spin off from a research group at the university here - face recognition/biometrics. No, I'm not principle...I'm a software engineer there, I was hired to turn a lot of the research ideas in to actual products that could be sold. It's fun work...a bit touch and go with funding, but start-ups always are...though I'm thinking of leaving.
I understand what you mean about mixing it up - so how many businesses have you started? Is that what you do right now? (work for your own I mean).
Nah, don't bother with the hypnotherapist, though thanks for the offer!...I wont find it hard stopping.
Yeah, I did a course in hypnotherapy/psychotherapy a few years back with the institute of clincial hypnotherapy, ran my own practice for a while but stopped so I could devote more energy to this start-up I work for. How did you find the NLP course? Did you attend through general interest?
Hahaha, thats a funny story about Bandler! He's supposed to be quite a character...I've been tempted to go to one of the NLP courses he runs over here.
Not much. Didn't feel like journaling today, but do feel like reading my friends' back entries (those written before I met them). Watched my son's usual Sat. tennis match and then had to spend several hours with eye doctors hassling over the third pair of new contact lenses I can't see out of. They ended by identifying the problem as twofold: (1) I'm old, so my eyes aren't cooperating with their attempts to correct them, and (2) my expectations for seeing clearly are just too high.
I had a belly laugh in front of them, after restating their summations this way.
Then spent another huge chunk of time making various hotel reservations for trip home for Thanksgiving--just in time, too, because apparently there is a Florida State home game that weekend (almost all the damn hotel rooms in Tallahassee were sold out!). You'd think my batty mother would tell me at least this.
Just got back from powerwalking with really loud music on board, and sweet tea olive in the chilly air.
That's about it. Am finally getting my sleep patterns straightened out after having to become a diurnal worker bee. But I love the night, hate the morning--so it is difficult to make myself go to bed.
Any cool trips planned on your side? Cooler than Tallahessee, Fla., I mean.
Hah, nice Mythbusting. Sure I'll do a picture up for halloween, no problem. Is your current av pic the one you want edited? Or do you have others? I couldnt find any in the pics of you that I could recognize aside from the Snow Fox one.
That'd be helpfull. You can send it to my SG mail or DocAlcoholiday@Yahoo.com if you like. If you have any prefrences for costume ideas, lemme know. I usually mess about a bit.
Hiya THanks! Hahaha, I blame all the lemsips I've been drinking this last few days!
Good weekend?
It's interesting what you say about Bandler being a sorcerer...there's obviously some power there isn't there.
It was the McKenna/Bandler course I was looking at doing...I've a lot of respect for Paul McKenna. I'm not totally sure if he does it with Bandler anymore. Mind you, can't argue with a cheap trip to the US
Have you used your NLP then? On yourself? Others?
Yeah, I'd say that the reputation and respect that the practitioner has really influences things - and obviously the individuals preconceptions of hypnosis etc. They say of Milton Erickson that you really only had to shake his hand and you were cured!
That is a very cool halloween style pic by the way :-)))
thanks so much!!! i'm really into my architectural work and feel that's my strongest suit so far. i'm experiencing all different types of shoots working with the magazine but i'm truly happy when i'm shooting a new building or decor.
i'm trying to get into historical buildings around town and have gotten into a masonic temple (which was freakin' awesome!). and now we have all these new condos that have been cropping up in different and new neighborhoods.
i can't believe that you called it c-bus! i say that all the time!
oh how i wish i could go! i have to work all night on friday. let me know when you're going to be coming into town again and hopefully we can meet up and say hi!
Oh man, you're supposed to tell me it was horrible! How did I miss out on a chance to see naked boobies? I love me some hot tattooes chicks The crappy part about the whole thing is that while the funnery was ensueing, that I was in DC-- which I can see any time (and do since i work in DC)
God... that SG thing you forced yourself to go to sounds awful. I'm sooooo glad I didn't go now, what with all the naked and the bouncing and the naked bouncing.
