shellymc:
have an awesome time this weekend...
take some pics! kiss
surlymike:
I think that it would be a photo finish between Indian and Ethiopian food...oh, but, wait, here's Southern food coming from behind.

Indian: aloo palak
Ethiopian: mittin shuro wot
Southern: Soul Vegetarian's BBQ "ribs" / mac & "cheese"

And the winner? By the smallest of margins, aloo palak!
evi227104:
Tough call, but here's my guilty pleasures list:

Food: Thai. Dish: Pad Preo Wan. Plus -
I absolutely love seafood, regardless of region and ethnicity. I hate to admit that my guilty pleasure food would be fish burritos at Taco Del Mar.

Guilty pleasure movie: Hudson Hawk with Bruce Willis, Danny Aiello, and Andie MacDowell.

So bad its great in the music category: 99 luftballons by Nina.
corpho:
While Mexican, Italian, and Indian are all great types of food, and I eat a lot of them frequently, I am a Mexican food girl all the way. I grew up mostly in Texas, so Tex-Mex was a staple of my diet. I was surprised by the type of Mexican food that is more prevalent in New York. It must be specific to regions in Mexico that are farther south of the border. It's more stew-y and heavy. I tried to come up with my favorite dish, and it's impossible. Tamales, tacos, chiles rellenos -- they're all fabulous.
surlymike:
If I could exchange conditions with you today, I would. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise: turista no es bueno (especially when on vacation)! frown

testykitten:

shellymc:
hope you are feeling better! kiss
testykitten:
puke i got it last night frown
testykitten:
oooh. i threw up all night (nothing out the other end). just queezy and weak now. all i've been eating is some popsicles. i postponed my flight until tomorrow-just couldnt imagine doing it! i'm glad you are feeling better now. kiss
shellymc:
It's from "Valley girl" biggrin
glad you are feeling better by the way!
and welcome back...
yeah... don't get your hopes up yet, but here's the countdown.
no cigarette since nine a.m (then i put a patch on)
two coffees today as opposed to three or four.
And one cocktail since sunday night.
not great... but hopeful wink
so you had a great trip?
and you got to hang with Testykitty and her mexican...
update later when you are feeling better.
and yes... i do have your number... so if i need someone to bitch too... i'll be sure to call!
thank you kiss
pastura:
flattery schmattery. i was being totally serious. maybe it's the pigtails or the cute shirt, but i'm guessing it has more to do with the sweet face wink

that's too bad that your roommate had to go back. was she just here for ESL? well, at least we'll get to benefit from fun travel pictures, right? right? where are they already?

aloo dumm is potatoes in a really savory, spicy tomato sauce. i love so many indian dishes which is why i aim for the lunch buffets. i hate having to choose between entrees, and even then, i always get the same one! what's gobi? i confess i don't know a lot of the names because they never lable things properly on the buffet where i go. but i'm thinking a road trip around the country, stopping at any and all indian restaurants sounds like a stellar idea. when i get to seattle, we'll be sure to hook up!
shellymc:
I heard about Stewart Copelands brother...
what a shame.
I was a big fan of the police also!
Just a couple weeks ago i heard "Walking on the moon" biggrin
brought me way back.
I haven't seen that movie "A lot like love"..
and by the way... i failed miserably..
lasted a total of 36.5 hrs without a cigarette frown
sorry... but i just wasn't mentally ready, plus i'm on the verge of getting my period and that didn't help me much.
but, i did manage to go over 24 hrs, so thats a positive sign.
however, due to my raging p.m.s and no smoking, i had a crying jag in front of a bank today!
is that normal when one goes through nicotine withdrawal?
or was that the p.m.s?
don't give up on me yet!
tell me how the documentary was.
rxdxt:
have fun.. go see the pyramid, have a coffee, (they are great)... go eat at some of those great restaurants.

smile

Oh yeah, don't breathe very much..

puke
surlymike:
You can smell me in the skies because I fart a lot!
shellymc:
I'm supposed to ask you about the inspiration behind your poem in Mike's journal biggrin
shellymc:
AH! .... Liz Phair...
or course i wouldn't know that, because i'm not really familiar with her music.
I know she's one of your favorites, but i just never got into her a lot.
which doesn't mean i dislkike her or anything..
i thought her little appearance in the film "Cherish" was pretty good wink
Well, the progress has been slow, but i really have cut back on the caffeine and booze, so thats kind of a start.
Not ready to quit them entirely though.
sorry to hear about your roommate, sounds like the two of you got along real well..
It's raining over here, so i think i'm just gonna have a lazy day. Maybe do a little housework and laundry.
Now if i was out in seattle, i'd be hanging out with you taking in a movie or having a vegan lunch date huh?
Tomorrow is my friends wedding, so wish me luck on not being the drunk girl, and just having a cocktail or two....
i certainly don't want D to have to carry me out of the place... tongue
enjoy your day!

Piers Anthony was mostly just very old. He did speak on a few panels about how his publishers had screwed him over in the beginning and how not to take crap from people lol. Xanth is not his first love, he described it as his bread and butter, but that he's gotten into writing other kinds of fiction. He was interesting, and reasonably personable, though for the most part he really just seemed pretty tired. Was interesting to meet though.
rxdxt:
Favorite is mexican, hands down, especially if it's from a cheapo street vendor place (taco stand).

But indian makes a strong 2nd place showing:

- Chicken Tikka and Sag Paneer.
corpho:
Hola! How was Mexico?

It's funny, I tried to think of a good Mexican restaurant in New York, and I can't really think of any. I know I'm being deliberately dense -- I have yet to find my favorite style here, which is TexMex, so what's on offer here doesn't really live up to that standard. There's a decent little hole in the wall in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn, called Castros (it's not Cuban). Another place with decent food is Mama Mexico on the Upper West Side, in Manhattan, but they have mariachis and loads of birthday parties, so it can be unpleasant. Oddly, no matter what style of cuisine you eat in New York, there're invariably all Mexicans working in the kitchen. They can cook anything!
afterbirth:
The best mexican food outside of LA is in Chicago.
I've lived in NY for 22 years and still not found a decent place.

I've never read any of his books. I have a "books to read" list about a mile long already, but if i ever get through it I might give him a try!

We were going to a mixed gay bar.. but it was kinda pricey so we went to a goth club instead.. was alright. Not the best evening out I've had.
shellymc:
"Love action" is a great tune!
sad to see the roommate leave?
sorry that didn't work out.
What was that movie about by the way?
had fun at the wedding, they played lots of 80's music biggrin
pastura:
damn you. i thought for sure there'd be pictures by now...

thanks about the article. i really didn't expect anyone to read it since it's so long and about india-freakin-napolis. the funny thing is, i can read novels and i can read poems... i just don't have the patience to read articles. something about the odd length. i like nonfiction. i don't get it. but i don't like writing them either, so maybe that has something to do with it.

yes, avacado green. perhaps a tad bit bluer than true 70's avacado, but maybe it just aged that way. it's probably authentic, still works though. smile our kitchen walls are orange, the cabinets dark blue. it was this way when we moved in. each room a different color.

normally i'd be jealous of your naan (though i've never had spinach-stuffed), but i was just at my India Garden the other night and still have leftovers in the fridge. yum. unfortunately i won't be able to make it to my own catering tasting for our Feast, but hopefully my boy will bring back boxes of crazy indian food! mmmm....
shellymc:
They did play "A town called Malice"
and it made me all giddy!
i did go to my tenth reunion..
i had a nice time, but i didn't find it amazingly entertaining...
still debating on going to my 20th.
I just cant believe that much time has actually passed.
How are you doing by the way?
