jacksalt:
I am in love with Quebec City- the old world grace, the flowers and gardens everywhere, wandering the old city, the food and street performers, everyone greets you in French- just love that place.

And how was the book club discussion of "naked"? Regan and I listened to him reading "Naked " in the car all day yesterday. i love the actual story "naked".
He's comin to town next weekend, but I don't think we'll go- tickets are $49 a piece. Yikes.
smile
shellymc:
Tell me how Slither is!
enjoy your dinner tomm. night biggrin
D and I went to the park today to rollerskate...well, i rollerskated and he rollerbladed ( i cannot master the rollerblades)
it was good to get outdoors for a while.
Nutria are a type of rodent, very big though...and perfectly legal to shoot them down in new orleans (nuisance law whatever )
they look a bit like beavers!
and yes, we did see some alligators too.
Thank you for getting the tickets kiss
surlymike:
Nutria are cool.

surlymike:
Hey, HolaGrabTito,

This is a good idea, no?
aela:
OMG I love that picture! Too funny! Oh, and girlfriend, the only way I'd ditch the red hair is for PINK hair, which current professional restraints would not allow, puke so red it is! Hooray for red-headed seattleites! Woo-hoo!

shellymc:
Nutria are pretty cute... they eat them down there as well...
the terrible thing is that they are not even native to Louisiana, supposedly they were brought there to get rid of some plant or animal that was running rampant down there.
Well... turns out the nutria had no desire to eat whatever it was supposed to eat, and then they bred at an alarming rate.
Next thing you know , they are considered the nuisance!
Humans playing god and screwing it up once again biggrin
jacksalt:
Ah, Quebec City rocks. I'm jealous you get to go- I haven't been since 2004.

All I can tell you is old city, old city, old city- eat there, shop there, walk there, take pictures there, go down the hillside trolley to the Old old city and antique, take the St lawrence River Walk from the riverside square, hand out in the square at night and watch street performers, walk the Plains of Abraham- it's lovely.

have a great time!
No, I don't speak french, but most Quebecois are bilingual. They'll usually greet you in french, but as soon as they realize you are an english speaker they will switch to that.

And yeah, not lookin like we'll see David and yes, the story naked is about the nudist camp. cracks me up every time!! biggrin
dorwayin:
yayyy, I love your new avater biggrin
feerlessfreddy:
nice new pic. "violently happy" huh. una pregunta tonta. siendo un vegetenario es mejor para la salud? por ejemplo tu cholesterol no va a estar tan alto como si comes tacos todos los dias. a mi me interesa por la salud pero no se nada de eso. bueno mi nino quiere algo y me tengo que ir. ten un buen dia.
shellymc:
I love the new profile pic!
and yes, that was "Santa Sangre"....my favorite Jodorowky film,
It's a movie very rich with metaphors and rather dreamlike ( or more nightmarish), but it deserves a second look by you...so i wont talk to much about it wink
shellymc:
got company over...
trying hard to be a good host and stay off the computer wink
however, she did want to check out some of the new photosets biggrin
shellymc:
where's Poulsbo?
aahh...Sunset boulevard...
i haven't seen it in a long time, but i really liked it.
surlymike:
Nah, I took the bus home first and then walked to Green Lake. Only took me about 90 minutes for the whole thing, too. And, really, it was about time that I did that. I should start doing it a few times a week at least.
shellymc:
sounds beautiful!
i so need a vacation soon...but i have to admit, going to the park on sunday was a mini vacation in itself.
It's one of the few nice things left in brockton, and i very rarely go there...
so it was kind of a treat.
We also have a great museum which i need to frequent more often, i went to a really cool exhibit there last year in which all the artwork was made from recycable trash.
It was amazing
jacksalt:
HA ha!!!

Tom Jones!!!

Ah, I love that guy.
*wipes away tears*

"It's not unusual, to be blah , blah , blah" I can hear it now.
Seriously, I've always had a soft spot for Tom Jones. Never got into Herb Alpert. Every time I raided mom and dads record collection, I thought they looked kinda square. Not my thing I guess.

But ya gotta love ole tom.
shellymc:
It's raining over here now...
giving me a case of the blahs before heading to work, i'll just stop at Starbucks and treat myself to a breve latte biggrin
I hope you have a good time this weekend.
Dorwayin just started a bonsai group on here,
That was completely out of the blue surreal
shellymc:
I'm a fan of quirky aussie films myself, and i remember "Starstruck"!
Don't think i've seen "Love serenade", whats it about?
I loved "Strictly ballroom", it was a great combination of campy comedy, romance and dance.
Sorry to hear you didn't like Sunset Boulevard... i guess its not for everyone, but i do think Gloria Swanson was great in it.
Have you ever seen the film "Welcome to woop woop"?
shellymc:
The first time i saw "Welcome to woop woop"...
i thought it was okay.
But for some reason, the second time i saw it, i liked it even more surreal
strange, but not the first time thats happened.
Love Serenade sounds like my type of film, i have not seen this one.
One of my all time favorite quirky films from the early eighties (or late seventies.. i can't remember) is "Gregory's girl"...its a scottish movie. It's so simple...and yet so funny and cute. And i only like a handful of cute films biggrin
shellymc:
So you remember Gregorys girl?
So many people haven't seen this one, but til this day it makes me laugh.
Are you a fan of Mike Leigh by any chance?
"Life is sweet" is my favorite film by him.
Another simple comedy where it seems that a not a lot is going on, but there is.
I think certain films get better with repeated viewing biggrin
shellymc:
I loved "Little voice"... i was blown away when i found out Jane Horrocks? did her own singing. but i'm not sure which director you are talking about... whatever
Don't give me too much credit, believe it or not..i'm pretty bad with names, and my memory sucks these days.
I liked 'Secrets and lies", but the first Mike Leigh film that really grabbed my attention was "Naked".... that one disturbed me!
But David Thewlis was so good in it!
nofi:
wow. i haven't seen the stamps. but i will look for them.

as far as i know, richard blade is still teaching scuba diving in the bahamas now. i actually got to know him and a couple other KROQ DJs in the 90s. it got to the point where i would show up at a KROQ event and richard would say, "hi, Quin!" pretty crazy. john frost, tami heide and doug the slug too...if those names mean anything to you. i feel like i witnessed the end of the greatest radio station in LA. those people actually cared about the music they played. they weren't just trying to make it on MTV and look pretty.
testykitten:
memphis, tn

heartbreaking, beautiful decay, the best music, wonderful people, the most amazing places to drink, dance, and listen.
shellymc:
Hope you had a great weekend biggrin
nofi:
he's actually still on KROQ semi regularly. mostly weekend and overnights. he started there in 1990, the same year as kevin and bean. and he was part of that murder confession prank that they all got in big trouble over. we email once in a while. he's incredibly funny and has the same passion for movies that i do.
blackdye15:
He's aggresive with his own kind. frown

Don't worry. He gets more attention than he wants as it is, though! Momma's always sticking food in front of his face and petting on his warm, hard shell! hahah I'm trying to get him used to me petting on his head. He's still a bit skittish, though.

(Would love to see how this is read out of context! tongue )
