SG Burlesque is coming tonight to NYC ... should be a wicked fun time with the SGNY crew ...

Also interesting comments in legionnaire 's journal about the fact that classical music and opera were the music of their day and it is a good idea to leave the canon.

I think the art and music critics, historians and "illuminati" smile tend to pick what they think should be intellectual interesting whether or not it is discernable at all.

Here are some other comments I talked about .... Another problem is that the critics tend to determine what people should like "hyper-modern" tends to prevail whether or not the public likes it.

Things like non-tonal classical music will never be interesting except to people that think it should have great meaning ... ie intellectualism over rhythm ... just a thought.

For instance much of the best dance today comes with some concert dancers over modern art .... and there is a lot to be said sometimes for thousands of artists not in the official art community .... Thomas Wolfe's "The Painted Word" is very interesting about this.

Just some thoughts ..

queena:
People are pretentious. We create meaning for art - and try to make it inexcessible to the public. Almost like we're afraid of the consequences of everyone enjoying or sharing similar experiences. It makes me think of Oscar Wilde, although he would say something more ironic and clever, probably "All art is completely useless".

And yes, the food *was * good.
