If by "I'll be here to see it through" you mean that you'll be there until the war is over, well, that war won't be over during our lifetime. That is unless there's another war somewhere else. Which is very likely. If there's an American civil war then, even if Washington doesn't pull everyone out, everyone's gonna run home anyway.
