I need some opinions on this. I sort of wish I would've gone about this in a different way though. But overall, I think I did the right thing.
My sister is 19...so you aren't wondering later. We live in my parents house and pay them rent. They live in TX. And I'm usually the more responsible big brother. Well she asked me in passing last week right after I woke up if she could have about 12 friends over for New Years. I wasn't too comfortable with it, but I said alright. She said they wouldn't be here until about 830-9. I got home at 7 last night and there were 17 year olds playing beer pong in my dining room. And the guy who my sister has apparently been hanging out with a lot and I guess is...seeing? provided the alcohol for the party. And he is 28... Yeah, not too thrilled about that either. I had no idea what was going to be going on at this get together, but I didn't expect this. Especially underage drinking like this. So I told my parents, which I think I should've tried dealing with it on my own first...but I didn't because I didn't expect that to work. But I told them, and my stepdad flipped his shit worse than I have ever heard. He made me break the party up immediately. And my sister had never ever EVER been so mad at me. Everyone left. And 20 mins after everyone left, a cop showed up because a neighbor called about possible underage drinking. I don't know if it was because of underage drinking or because my sister had been screaming at the top of her lungs at me outside on the porch. Something along the lines of "I'll fucking hate you for the rest of your fucking life. I'm going to get a card and a balloon and write how much I fucking hate you in it. I'll never forgive you for this. Blah blah blah." It had no affect on me because I knew she was talking out of her ass. But regardless, had he showed up when everyone was there, I would've gone to jail, my sister too probably, and my parents would've gone to court since it was their house. Along with whoever else that would've been in deep shit. So I kept everyone out of trouble. She was in fairly deep shit with my parents, but her and I are fine now. And I think my parents have calmed down a lot about it.
I think I did the right thing by doing what I did. Because my sister needed a serious wake up call I think. I need to help her get her life set back. And she just needs some support in her decisions, which she hasn't gotten in along time. It's harder explaining it to someone who doesn't know my sister or my situation. Yeah, I'm the dick big brother who crashed my sister's party. But that should've never happened in the first place. She should know that. But I kept everyone out of trouble. And they moved the party elsewhere.
But I just ended up staying home and cleaning up. I didn't go see my friends because I was tired from my 9 hour shift. And didn't want to drive clear out to the heart of Farragut to see them when I was that exhausted. Anyway, that was my New Years. Spent alone. Lame...but safe. Haha. I wish I would've acted on my own at first, with holding the "parent card" over her head I guess, and just taking care of it on my own. But I think I didn't because knowing my sister, she wouldn't have ended the party. So I think that's why I ended it how I did.

You totally did the right thing! She'll get over it... She is lucky that you are responsible and kept her ass out of trouble. Young adults are more or less children... They still need and crave structure. I have an 18 year old sister and that shit your sister pulled would not have flown with me.

yeah, she's gonna hold it against you initially, but down the road she ought to understand that you really were looking after her. the part that worries me is the 28 year old creep she's apparently seeing. he's nine year's older than her. yeah, i'm sure she feels that she's mature for her age, all teen agers do. but damn, that's one to keep a real close eye on.
