What a wonderful morning!

Ive been thinking about death a great deal lately. Not mine; I reconciled myself with that eventuality a long time ago. Ive even actively and purposefully tried to bring it about. I failed. Youve probably figured that out. It was a long time ago.

Ive been thinking about people who have passed. This is an autograph of one of my favorite authors, a great voice and conscience of the twentieth century. He died on my birthday, a couple of years ago. I was having a very pleasant time until I heard the news. Ill never celebrate that date in the same way again.

I watched one my favorite films, The Double Life of Veronique, last night. The director, Krzysztof Kieslowski went into the hospital for corrective surgery following a heart attack. He never came out. What a genius. What a loss.

Today is Mothers Day. My Mom passed a few years after Kieslowski and a few months before Vonnegut. I never met either of them; I hadnt seen my Mother for several years. She died, was cremated and her ashes were scattered in the Gulf of Mexico, all without my involvement. Im not the horrible creature you may think There were reasons for my absence and behavior. They probably wouldnt be perceived by most to be good ones, but they were unyielding and insurmountable. My Mother lived nearly ninety years. Her mind and memory finally went in her final year or so. In many people this is a curse, to her it seemed to be a blessing. She had good care and spent her final days serenely smiling at whatever memories had been left her

I called and spoke with her often. Id tell her my name but she didnt know me. She did often speak, however, of a favorite photo on her wall. A happy, smiling little boy. He was two years old or so in the picture, and forever so in her mind. He was her son, and she loved him very much. She was surprised by an amazing coincidence he and I shared the same name.

Happy Mothers Day, Angela
