Its been hot here in Dutchess County, and Tuesday was no exception. The temperature reached ninety two degrees in the afternoon before a cold front moved in and caused a drop of nearly 30 degrees in just a couple of hours. The resulting lightning and high wind knocked out my phone and internet. I didnt miss it all that much - I was outside enjoying the storm.

Im temporarily without wheels. Yesterday morning the differential in my trusty old steel steed started leaking fluid, and stopped differentiating. It and I managed to make it to Danbury, CT where I spent an enjoyable day followed by a fun evening with friends. The car will be repaired and ready sometime this morning. Ill need to get right in and drive it someplace interesting or exciting rain is forecast for the next several days.

Minghella, when making a film adaptation, would read the book a few times. Then put it away and not refer to it again. His creativity could then take over, as it did in Truly, Madly, Deeply, The Talented Mr Ripley and Cold Mountain as well. He was a great director, and it is a tragedy that he died so young. Everyone who worked with him said what a kind and fundamentally decent man he was, and I think that shines through in the sensitivity of his work.
