Hey donnie darko is great- the funny thing is, I dont think that all the hipster kids really notice that it happens to be an reinterpretation of the story of christ, with Hawking-fan/theoretical physics interpolations. (Trust me, its in there, the brass idols, the false prophets...it goes on and on)
Anyway, to set the record straight, I do in fact force myself to read things that I disagree with. And I havent based my knowledge on a few good books, I've only found better ways of cognitively communicating ideas that I've felt since I was a child.
Plus, I think that viewing the human as a machine is a very dangerous thing, as is the materialist view you propose that dictates our modern belief system...we are in a perceptual crisis which is destroying us. Once we stripped reality down from idealogy. we got lost, and havent yet gained an understanding of where to go from there.
i could go on but i have a lot fo work to do- just one thing- if you think that you've found the truth that thousands of geniuses have sought and failed to find for centuries, some ultimate truth before the half century mark then...well you can draw your own conclusions. We work our simple minds through all kinds of thought contructs, investing our faith in them in a way, afraid to look the limits of our understanding in the face because you can't say that isnt scary as fuck. Thats why we have ads, celebrities, and why eastern cultures are finding some kind of resurrection or reinterpretation in our lives so frequently nowadays, people are desperate to find something to believe in. and hey, ill be the first to admit that I fall prey to that sometimes. just something to keep in mind.

I did like DD but like you it is nothing that I found outstanding and unless it comes on IFC while I am actually watching I will probably never see it again. Besides the damned bunny freaked me out.
I just saw Adaptation last week and during the slower first half of the movie I did enjoy it but it got pretty lame when he did try to get clever during that last part. I didn't enjoy it the way I thought and I was left just feeling blah.
I've never even heard of the Secretary but it sounds like something I should pick up. I'll keep an eye out for it.
